Guix publish stopped working

Hi,

A few months ago, 'guix publish' stopped accepting connections on a
bunch of my machines.  It's painful for me because I run many customized
packages that aren't available on the substitute servers.

Did anyone else have issues with 'guix publish'?  Thanks!

Do the logs say anything of interest?  Does a restart "fix" it?

Thank you for that pointer!  I looked at guix-publish.log, which is most
convenient, and found the text below this message.

I did not try restarting guix-publish but restarted avahi-daemon
instead.  Then 'guix-publish' works as advertised.

The avahi-daemon log (further below) shows some unusual messages like

    2024-08-05 08:12:08 Daemon already running on PID 600

that suggest maybe avahi-daemon is now being started automatically, but
trying to reconfigure without

    (service avahi-service-type) ;for guix publish

yields only

    guix deploy: error: failed to deploy lechner-laptop:
      service 'guix-daemon' requires 'avahi-daemon',
        which is not provided by any service

I also saw

    WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing
    nss-mdns!

even though I removed 'nss-mdns' from my system profile, for what I
believed was a good reason, some time ago.

Any pointers are welcome.
