By=20 activating all these profiles at once, you=E2=80=99re effectively creating= =20 a single profile with the combined packages of all 17. But since=20 this is done in an ad-hoc way, outside Guix, it=E2=80=99s missing=20 functionality, such as telling you about conflicts, building the=20 XDG MIME database, font cache, etc. This is very likely going to=20 cause further bugs and problems. If you put the software you regularly use into your main profile,=20 the system works better and your problem goes away without needing=20 to mess with shell startup. Engineering is all about making tradeoffs. With the downsides=20 you=E2=80=99ve noted, and the complexity of managing it, I=E2=80=99d expect= there=20 to be a very strong and specific upside from such a system which=20 can=E2=80=99t be replicated with a one-profile setup. I may have missed=20 it, but I don=E2=80=99t see such a rationale here. I strongly urge you to reconsider your approach. -- Ian
