Nice! I encourage people on this list to volunteer to co-mentor this project: increasing our bus factor=C2=B9 is important (really!) and so is bringing people from diverse backgrounds to the project, and this is a nice project that can make a big difference for Guix. =C2=B9 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_factor > Oct. 16, 2018 is the deadline to submit new projects, and also to apply as > a co-mentor. Among the other ideas that were thrown on IRC was that of a GNOME Software backend. If people have an interest in this, we can still dig a bit and formalize it. Thoughts? Thanks, Ludo=E2=80=99. I agree. This video documentation project is very different from other GSoC or Outreachy projects of the past in that they don=E2=80=99t really re= quire programming skills. This makes it easier for mentors as well. If you are a contributor to Guix and you are familiar with how to use Guix and what sets it apart from related systems you might be able to co-mentor this project. If you aren=E2=80=99t sure feel free to get in tou= ch with G=C3=A1bor and me (even off-list). > Among the other ideas that were thrown on IRC was that of a GNOME > Software backend. If people have an interest in this, we can still dig > a bit and formalize it. Thoughts? For that project I think it would be advisable to get in touch with the maintainers of GNOME Software to better understand what would need to be done on their side. I=E2=80=99d feel uncomfortable starting a project for Outreachy unilaterally without having a liaison on the GNOME side. For internships we need to make sure that we control enough of the variables that could lead to failure. I think this may not be possible if the work happens on a foreign code base with a developer community that we aren=E2=80=99t yet part of. This is doable, but it requires more than the usual preparation by a potential mentor. -- Ricardo From mboxrd@z Thu Jan 1 00:00:00 1970 From: ludo@gnu.org (Ludovic =?utf-8?Q?Court=C3=A8s?=) Subject: Re: Guix Outreachy project looking for co-mentor Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2018 15:51:09 +0200 Message-ID: <875zyr3v76.fsf@gnu.org> References: <87wor81n2c.fsf@gnu.org> <875zyst9z3.fsf@elephly.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Return-path: Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::10]:48263) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1g5WhK-0004BN-GF for guix-devel@gnu.org; Thu, 27 Sep 2018 09:51:20 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1g5WhE-0003NN-Rr for guix-devel@gnu.org; Thu, 27 Sep 2018 09:51:18 -0400 In-Reply-To: <875zyst9z3.fsf@elephly.net> (Ricardo Wurmus's message of "Wed, 26 Sep 2018 20:00:32 +0200") List-Id: "Development of GNU Guix and the GNU System distribution."
