Hello,
I am fairly sure
#: modules/shepherd/scripts/herd.scm:86
#, scheme-format
msgid " Running value is ~s.~%"
refers to the value of the #:running slot but translators don’t know
that and would translate it as a value that is running. This should
be changed and a comment for TRANSLATORS should be added.
Regards,
Florian

Done in Shepherd commit 5d418ff0de1ac0a5419344dfe70c08ed464f3797.
Thanks,

No, it is not done. What the manual described as the @code{running}
value, i.e. the value of the #:running slot, was understood by at
least one translator not as the value of #:running but as a value
which runs.

This is not the information that translators need.

Yes, that’s what I understood from your message.

Can you suggest a better comment?
Thanks,
Ludo’.

Maybe: ;; TRANSLATORS: 'running' is the name of a variable.
I thought #:running describes the manner in which the service is
running. Maybe I misunderstand.
Mario Blättermann translated literally before and I changed it to a
German translation of " Runs with »running« value ~s.~%" (with a
German word for only the first occurrence of “run”).
I am sorry for having responded in a rude manner before.
Regards,
Florian

That’s not quite true though (it’s a slot in the <service> class,
technically.)
I agree that “running value” is a confusing phrase. That’s why I wrote
that it’s a PID most of the time, hoping that this would clarify it.
> I thought #:running describes the manner in which the service is

Yeah, it’s really just a PID:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
$ sudo herd status nscd
Status of nscd:
It is started.
Running value is 446.
It is enabled.
Provides (nscd).
Requires (user-processes).
Conflicts with ().
Will be respawned.
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
We’ve just received new translations, so let’s see if that looks good.
Thanks,
Ludo’.
