We are pleased to announce the release of GNU Guix & GuixSD 0.11.0,
representing 2,119 commits by 70 people over 4 months.

• About

GNU Guix is a transactional package manager for the GNU system.
The Guix System Distribution, GuixSD, is an advanced distribution
  of the GNU system.

In addition to standard package management features, Guix supports
transactional upgrades and roll-backs, unprivileged package
management, and per-user profiles. GuixSD offers a declarative
approach to operating system configuration management and is highly
hackable. Guix uses low-level mechanisms from the Nix package
manager, except that packages are defined as native Guile modules,
using extensions to the Scheme language.

GuixSD uses the Linux-Libre kernel and the GNU Shepherd init system.
At this stage it can be used on an i686 or x86_64 machine.

It is also possible to use Guix on top of an already installed
  GNU/Linux system, including on mips64el and armv7.

[*] Use a .sig file to verify that the corresponding file (without the
.sig suffix) is intact. First, be sure to download both the .sig file
and the corresponding tarball. Then, run a command like this:

    gpg --verify guix-0.11.0.tar.gz.sig

If that command fails because you don't have the required public key,
then run this command to import it:

    gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-keys 090B11993D9AEBB5

and rerun the 'gpg --verify' command.

This release was bootstrapped with the following tools:
    Autoconf 2.69
    Automake 1.15
    Makeinfo 6.1
    Help2man 1.47.4

To install the Guix System Distribution, please see “System
Installation” in the manual. To install Guix on a running
system, see “Installation” in the manual.

*** New ‘with-imported-modules’ form provided by (guix gexp)

It supersedes the #:modules parameter of ‘gexp->derivation’, ‘compute-file’,
‘gexp->script’, ‘program-file’, etc, as well as the ‘imported-modules’ fields
of <origin> and <shepherd-service>. See “G-Expressions” in the manual.

*** New (gnu tests) and (gnu build marionette) modules for system tests

  See <http://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=8605> for background.

  *** New (guix zlib) module
*** New (guix hg-download) module, for Mercurial checkouts
*** (guix download) supports HTTP basic authentication
  *** (guix svn-download) supports authentication
*** The ‘source’ of packages can be a ‘local-file’ or any lowerable object
*** Part of (guix utils) moved to the new (guix combinators)
*** GNU updater honors the ‘ftp-server’ and ‘ftp-directory’ package properties
*** CVE linter honors the ‘cpe-name’ and ‘cpe-version’ package properties
  *** ‘add-to-store’ and ‘local-file’ have a new #:select? parameter

Hello,

I'm doing an usb install in a VM, and I saw an error message
during boot (of the usb image & of the installed system) from
nscd, it says it cannot find /etc/resolv.conf

After the first reboot the file is there though

So this is probably not that important.

During the first guix pull & system reconfigure, I saw that:

warning: collision encountered:
/gnu/store/jp9hnhyyzf4djdm23ldp3gjqz01biy3y-gmp-6.1.0/lib/libgmp.so
/gnu/store/cdkrfbl10kbyyjjw3yfk9hckfw8n1b7g-gmp-6.1.0/lib/libgmp.so
warning: arbitrarily choosing
/gnu/store/jp9hnhyyzf4djdm23ldp3gjqz01biy3y-gmp-6.1.0/lib/libgmp.so

Is this explained somewhere in the doc ?

I'm not sure, hopefully somebody has some idea about this.

I noticed this, too.

> Is this explained somewhere in the doc ?

I'm not sure if it's explained there.

Basically, the profile being created [0] contains two files called
'lib/libgmp.so'. Since they lose the "namespace" created by the unique
/gnu/store hashes when they are symlinked into the profile, only one of
them can exist under the name 'lib/libgmp.so'. Sometimes this is benign,
sometimes not.

We should investigate this case.

[0] I assume it's the system-wide profile found at
/run/current-system/profile, but it can happen for ~/.guix-profile also.
