Booy fails after fresh, successful installation

Hello

I'm having trouble installing a guix system on my freshly assembled workstation (AMD Ryzen). The installer works just fine (no errors indicated) but the boot process doesn't finish (see attachement).

i don't think it's lack of drivers since other OSs work just fine (without binary blobs).

i would love to post some more info (logs, etc) but since the machine doesn't boot all i have is the foto attached.

How did you this?
Which OS have you tried before?

Note that Guix uses linux-libre, _not_ linux, which may be the
difference here.

I don’t think so, Gabriel Wicki wrote that the installer worked, and I
assume the installer uses linux-libre too.

The installer does not have the same hardware requirements as the booted
OS, in particular when it comes to graphics.

hello

since this is a brand-new machine, i hadn't tried anything before. now
it's happily running kubuntu (without any non-free drivers). which
doesn't make it a linux-libre kernel (afaik), but still.

what's the difference between the installer and the to-be-installed
system? i'd be astonished if they weren't both linux-libre...

The installer does not load X or mesa.
The installed system with a login manager like GNOME may try to load a
driver on startup (like radeon or amdgpu) which in turn requires the
loading of a firmware which is missing from the linux-libre kernel.

If you want to confirm this, try booting another distribution that uses
linux-libre, like Parabola or Triskell.
