That's what I was looking for. I'm glad to hear it! > A related question: I didn't understand the part "retain=20 > backwards compatibility with isatty/stderr/etc." First of all: I worded this poorly, as is my wont. I should have=20 said =E2=80=98by using=E2=80=99 instead of =E2=80=98with=E2=80=99. We're n= ot trying to be=20 compatible with isatty or stderr=E2=80=A6 Wat I meant was Guix could use the =E2=80=98isatty=E2=80=99 Guile procedure= to=20 show decorate the columns only when the output is a TTY=20 (=E2=80=98interactive=E2=80=99), or print a header line to =E2=80=98stderr= =E2=80=99 so it won't be=20 captured by a pipe. I think that any such solution would be fragile, do the wrong=20 thing in at least one case, and add too much complexity just to=20 sometimes add a header. Why not simply always add a header? Someone might be using =E2=80=98guix package -I=E2=80=99 in a script, and p= arsing=20 its output. In fact I guarantee you that several people are doing=20 so behind closed doors right now! Adding a header would break=20 such scripts. I, personally, would welcome breaking their scripts=E2=80=94in exchange=20 for adding a =E2=80=98--format=3D=E2=80=99 opti= on like=20 we already do for =E2=80=98guix search=E2=80=99. A real API that's actuall= y=20 reliable and supportable. I think that's fair. I just think I'd be outvoted and don't feel like starting a fight=20 :-) Kind regards, T G-R --=-=-= Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iIMEARYKACsWIQT12iAyS4c9C3o4dnINsP+IT1VteQUCY/vF5A0cbWVAdG9iaWFz LmdyAAoJEA2w/4hPVW150xIBAK0K/LVYEDwKafILhHDwLA0/1joPFxdMkR//7H13 DFiaAQCjgVECoLNjkxcTYrOXfYv50nO24rMR5L+tQnB4Tq1BBQ== =9ciI -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--
