So I'm trying to define a new menu-entry for my desktop system using
GuixSD's system config. I've ran into an interesting problem that I'm
not sure how to resolve. Forgive any formatting issues here, I'm having
to hand-copy this over from a VM I'm using to test everything. I know
it's this piece of code that is acting up since this is a recent
addition to an already working config. Replacing the actual
(menu-entry ...) with '() doesn't cause any errors, fwiw.
(bootloader (grub-configuration (device "/dev/sda")
(menu-entries
(menu-entry
(label "Desktop")
(linux "/boot/kernel")
(linux-arguments "")
(initrd "/boot/initramfs")))))
This constantly throws errors that I can't sort out. Attached (if I do
it properly with this new email client) is a screenshot of the error.

I think `menu-entries' should be a list. Try
(menu-entries (list (menu-entry [...])))

Thomas is right, I just tried it with the following configuration and it
works for me :
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
(bootloader (grub-configuration (device "/dev/sda")
(timeout 1)
(menu-entries
(list (menu-entry
(label "test")
(initrd "/boot/inittest")
(linux "/boot/vmtest"))))))
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

I tried that and I'm still getting an error. Attached is the related
screenshot.

Nevermind. Apparently system reconfigure craps itself when
(linux-arguments ...) is passed an empty string.

The field `linux-arguments' in your menu-entry should also be a list
(your example had an empty string). If you don't want to specify any
arguments, you can also leave it out (the default is an empty list.
Otherwise, see this example from the manual:
(menu-entry
(label "The Other Distro")
(linux "/boot/old/vmlinux-2.6.32")
(linux-arguments '("root=/dev/sda2"))
(initrd "/boot/old/initrd"))

As a rule of thumb, dian_cecht, anytime something has a plural name,
then it’s very likely a list.
HTH,
