Strings are not applicable.  You probably meant:

  (G_ "Foo ~a bar")

In the example above, if we define =E2=80=98G_=E2=80=99 as an xgettext keyw=
ord in
=E2=80=98Makevars=E2=80=99, the string is indeed extracted.  But that=E2=80=
=99s not what was
happening here.
