Hi,

when developing packages, esp. when switching branches, I get lots of
messages like this:

;;; note: source file …/guix/gnu/packages/tor.scm
;;; newer than compiled …/guix/gnu/packages/tor.go

How can I get rid of these?

Run make

Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?

I meant without running make after each little change :-)

By running make. It speeds up subsequent builds, so I find it a good
idea to run make when I get too many of these.

If you don’t run make Guile will interpret the changed files and that’s
quite a bit slower. It’s possible to silence these warnings, but they
are really helpful.

If you want to keep a stable branch of Guix around you can use “git
worktree”. Then you can have a worktree on master and another worktree
where your WIP branches are being edited. Editing or switching branches
in one worktree won’t affect the other worktree.

Don't switch branches. If you want to work on two branches keep two
working directories - one per branch.

I'm using this git worktree feature now since one or two weeks and this
is really great. I have several worktrees for different "projects" (like
updating KDE Frameworks).

Side-note: You tip also made me use worktrees for when generating a
github-pages-based website using sphinx: The _build/html directory is
the worktree holding the "gh-pages" branch. Works like a charm :-)
