Did you know that April marked the 2nd anniversary of the first Guix commit? Time flies! I=E2=80=99d like to release 0.7 by the end of June. The main focus for me = has been to prepare a usable bootable system, and 0.7 will provide a bootable USB disk image. We=E2=80=99re close to having a usable system, for those of us who have sma= ll requirements and can cope with eating their own dog food. ;-) There are several ways you can help: =E2=80=A2 Run =E2=80=98guix system vm build-aux/hydra/demo-os.scm=E2=80= =99, try it, fiddle with the =E2=80=98operating-system=E2=80=99 declaration, report any iss= ues, see what=E2=80=99s missing for you, ask questions, discuss the implementati= on, etc. =E2=80=A2 Add definitions for services you=E2=80=99d like to see and are = currently missing (info "(guix) Defining Services"). =E2=80=A2 Add packages that are important to you. =E2=80=A2 Improve the =E2=80=98linux-libre=E2=80=99 package so it builds = more modules and such. =E2=80=A2 Provide nice gnu pictures that can be used as the GRUB backgrou= nd, the X login screen, and things like that. :-) For 0.7 there will also be a bunch of updates (the =E2=80=98core-updates=E2= =80=99 branch.) If time permits, I=E2=80=99d like to prepare (guix packages) so w= e can starting using g-expressions in the =E2=80=98arguments=E2=80=99 field of pa= ckages and remove the labels in the =E2=80=98inputs=E2=80=99 fields. Thoughts, comments? Happy hacking!
