I think the problem is that there=E2=80=99s a stale /etc/group.lock file (t= his is what =E2=80=98groupadd=E2=80=99 reports.) Christian: could you try to remove that file (you may need to access the partition from another system, for example) and reboot? We shouldn=E2=80=99t be ignoring groupadd=E2=80=99s return value, but there= =E2=80=99s nothing sane we can do, is there? Thanks, Ludo=E2=80=99.
