It=E2=80=99s just a common re= commendation because it works so well with text and is trivially extensible, so it=E2=80= =99s a common target for helper tools. Surely we also wouldn=E2=80=99t call a recommendation to use a shell script =E2=80=9Cvendor lock-in=E2=80=9D just = because it needs Bash. Emacs works well with text, and text is all that=E2=80=99s needed in a patch-based workflow, which is in fact vendor agnostic.
