Kind of like "indent" for C code. This file is understood by Emacs. Unfortunately we have no other tool that understands that. But again, as discussed at , some effort to get a consistent style is needed (for instance, the output of importers clearly needs manual tweaks or Emacs =E2=80=98M-q=E2=80= =99 aka. =E2=80=98paredit-reindent-defun=E2=80=99, which is really a tiny fract= ion of the time it takes to prepare a package), but it=E2=80=99s OK if some packages d= on=E2=80=99t perfectly follow the fine rules in .dir-locals.el. Now, if Vim users post a configuration file equivalent to .dir-locals.el, that=E2=80=99s even better, and I=E2=80=99d happily commit = it! Ludo=E2=80=99.
