The=20 concerns raised around rewriting history have valid points; I=20 think it=E2=80=99s impractical to rewrite history any time a change needs=20 to happen, as that would be an ongoing source of disruption. But=20 rewriting history *once*, to switch to a more general mechanism,=20 seems like a reasonable trade to me. This also presents an=20 opportunity: we could combine this with a default branch switch=20 from master to main. A news entry left as the final commit in=20 master could inform people of whatever steps may be needed to=20 update (if that can=E2=80=99t be automated), and the main branch would=20 contain the rewritten history. It=E2=80=99s certainly not a perfect solution, but it seems pragmatic. =E2=80=94 Ian
