Hello everyone,

It's that time of the year again. We should start preparing for the Guix
Days 2025 and a Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom proposal.
Fosdem has not announced the dates yet, but we are expecting first
weekend of February 2025.

I have created the pages at [1] devroom proposal and [2] Guix days. I
copy pasted the text from last year and updated the year.

We need to update the topic and possible talks, decide on who to honor
in the devroom, etc.

Please update the pages with any input you have or ping us.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Manolis and Pjotr

Thanks Manolis!

Who wants to help out with organising Guix days (Jan 30+31) and or the
FOSDEM devroom (Feb 1+2)?

Every year these meetings are a great success and a driver for
discussion and change in Guix and Guile. Mes came out of this. I
would argue prescheme and hoot as well. Exciting stuff! Also the
greater FOSDEM is amazing. If you never attended, do consider going!

Not to depend on the same actors we invite people to help select
speakers and organise these days. It is not a lot of work because we
are old hands by now. If anything we were getting a bit complacent
leaving things till the last minute. Hopefully we do better this year
:)

So, feel free to edit above pages. Reply to Manolis or me in person if
you want to help out.

We have booked ICAB again for Guix days 2025.

https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Guix/FOSDEM2025

Places are limited. So add your name to the list if you intend to
come. The wiki can be edited after signing in.

Dear all,

Registration for Guix days is closed because we have 60 people signed
up. Sadly we can only handle so many. If you changed your mind, you
can remove your name from the list so we can let someone in. If you
are not on the list, please don't just show up. We have to comply to
fire regulations etc.

We'll look for a larger venue next year. Looks like we have outgrown
ICAB!

Im marked down for two days, but I will be going to the Friday event (im
going to a community metrics event on the Thursday).
Also Im stepping out for a lecture at 230 PM on the Friday.

Perhaps whoever has the stamina to navigate the buggy FSF site can
update that detail, so that they can add their own name as a Thursday
attendant?

https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Guix/FOSDEM2025

I see there are currently 6 attendees marked for only one day (plus me)
- so I posit that we are still technically below the limit.

I will be in Brussels on Friday but not Thursday. It is not totally clear to me whether there is a gap - I see a couple of people tagged "Thursday" but not sure if the corresponding Friday is inhabited.

I'm a relative beginner with guix, but would love to get to know other enthusiasts. Please let me know if there is a social or something else that is not totally full!

Best wishes,
Dan

I am stepping out at 2pm on Friday for 3 hours.
Given that I see that number 45 on the list is free only from noon I
suspect that you squat then.

Please only if you are prepared to update my details (number 29 and that
of 45 for clarity -- my browser hates that site for some reason).
Additionally, please state against my name that I am available only for
Friday until 2pm.

AS SUCH, THERE SHOULD BE A FREE PLACE on the Thursday!

Kind regards,

Jonathan

Hi all,

We are oversubscribed for Guix days. That is good and bad :)

If you show up (as some are wont) and you were not on the first 60 we
may ask you to go elsewhere - which can happen as a group. Also coffee
and lunch catering is for a smaller set. We are actually geared for
about 45 people and there are fire regulations - which sets the size
of the rooms. We are counting on 45 people at any time (not 60).

If you did not sign up in time I suggest it is better *not* to show up
to prevent overloading the organisers. If you swap places make sure to
agree with that person. I am sure we'll have enough challenges.

Sorry about that. We said space was limited and to sign up in time.
Next year we'll go to a larger place! Promise. We clearly outgrew the
venue. I suggest to organize a separate event in this thread for those
who are left out.

And we will still have dinner and drinks together.

Note that the FOSDEM room on Sunday should hold us all. Do come early
because the doors close when all seats are taken (again fire
regulations).

I just posted on Mastodon

Guix days at FOSDEM has outgrown the venue we had for the last 8
years! It is exciting! The first time was in 2018
https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Guix/FOSDEM2018 and we had a first
Guix/Guile devroom in 2015! That makes 10 years of Guix fun.

Hi Tobias, thank you for checking!

I will definitely be in Brussels that day but just need to check with work that I can have the time free. I'll confirm one way or the other tomorrow morning.

Best wishes,
Dan

Hi Tobias, I have confirmation I can come on Friday. I just added myself with a note that it's only for Friday. Happy for that to be paired up with a Thursday attendee if that makes it easy to count.

Best wishes
Dan

Dear all,

We had a fantastic Guix days with loads of interesting discussions.
These things are a success because all of us, so I want to thank
everyone for making it such great events :). We have outgrown ICAB, so
next year we'll look for a new venue.

We did not collect enough money for catering, so it is greatly
appreciated if you can send the fair amount of 30 EUR/d for the food and
drinks to:

For: GUIX EUROPE
IBAN: IE64SUMU99036511587579
BIC: SUMUIE22XXX
Institution: SumUp Limited

If you don't have the money we will make up for it. But if you can
pay, please do. It will make it possible to do this on a voluntary
basis again! We like Guix days and FOSDEM to be accessible to everyone.

Pj.
