I just did the following:
guix package -d
guix gc
to have only the current profile and its packages on my disk.
Then I wanted to delete one package:
guix package -r texlive
This resulted in the following output:
The following package will be removed:

Is this normal? Should removing packages not be possible without an internet
connection? Does "guix gc" need to be modified to keep essential packages
registered?

Yes it is! :-)
The derivation that builds the profile uses Guile, like almost all the
derivations. And since we just merged the bash-cve-2014-6271 branch, it
depends on the new Guile build, which isn’t yet in your store. Hence
the long download list.
