I'm sure there's plenty to be=20 improved in how we package a large collection of software like=20 GNOME in an intuitive way. Raghav Gururajan wrote: > The following gnome core applications have already been included=20 > in > guix's gnome package but requires correct renaming? > > epiphany --> gnome-web Using =E2=80=98correct=E2=80=99 here is a bit strong. ~ =CE=BB guix install epiphany ~ =CE=BB gnome-web bash: gnome-web: command not found ~ =CE=BB epiphany # browsin' time While we don't blindly name packages after the binaries they=20 provide, of course, a look at the project's own publications=20 doesn't reduce the confusion. Ironic. =E2=80=9CWeb is the web browser for the GNOME desktop and for elementary= =20 OS, based on the popular WebKit engine. It offers a simple, clean, beautiful view of the web featuring first-class GNOME and=20 Pantheon desktop integration. Its code name is Epiphany. You may install Web from the software repositories of most=20 Linux operating systems, where it is normally packaged as "epiphany-browser" or "epiphany". =E2=80=9D[0] The README[1] mainly, but not exclusively, talks about =E2=80=98Epiphany=E2= =80=99.=20 Even the two URLs balance each other out. I don't think there's=20 enough here to justify gross renaming, and in the name of all=20 that's holy let's avoid another mass renaming incident. Personally, I think adding =E2=80=98GNOME Foo=E2=80=99 to the synopses of a= ll=20 these packages is sufficient (epiphany does this by coincidence,=20 calling itself the =E2=80=98GNOME web browser=E2=80=99). Eventually, this = could=20 be another use for the separate (G)UI display name field as=20 suggested in the games thread. :-) Package names aren't opaque identifiers, but they can be a little=20 technical IMO.
