i'm condescending because i'm a User.  i'm insulting because i'm a
Programmer.  i'm both because i'm a subversive revolutionary (and hacker
wannabe) w/ a selectively long memory.  ymmv.

others are wielding the clue stick, so i'll refer you to their comments.

it's not stupid to make mistakes, but it's stupid to not understand
those mistakes, and it's really stupid to ignore how other people have
previously made/fixed/avoided those mistakes.
