Hello,

from the projects page [1]: "To contribute, ask for instructions on the
guile-user mailing list." So I do:

Recently I looked around on the guile website [1] and found that many of
the projects on the projects page [2] don't exist anymore or have moved.
I hunted down a few of them in which I was interested, googling and
mailing with the maintainers.

Where to send that? In case someone who can do something with the
information reads here, it's below.

Unfortunately I didn't read this until now:
"Right now, the list pretty much unmaintained and likely contains
outdated information. We will move this list over to the Free Software
Directory soonish."
because when you click on "Core" on the navigation panel, the top of the
projects page is already scrolled out the browser window. But I think
the information is also valuable for the Directory.

Please CC me.

Greetings,
Thomas

http://scwm.sourceforge.net/

Unfortunately no longer maintained. I've been using scwm until last
year, and have now switched to sawfish because rebuilding guile-1.3
for scwm is troublesome.

This can now be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/scwm/ and

Excellent!

Errm, my plan was to use the Free Software Dictionary at

    http://www.gnu.org/directory/

as the place to collect information about Guile projects. I asked
them to create some categories for us, but this hasn't happened yet.
No answers to repeated requests either. (The last email is attached
below, in case you want to join the process.)

Sooo, yeah, I will try to get that ball rolling again and will then
incorporate your changes...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,

the Guile developers want to use the Free Software Directory for their
list of 'Projects related to Guile'. Could you create new categories
for this purpose? I have attached a patch to the "categrories" file
below.

When you agree to do this, I will send in patches to add existing
entries to their appropriate categories and will ask people to submit
new entries with these categories. Ok?

Thanks!

IMHO a simpler (and cleaner?) way would be to put the programs in the
existing language-idependent categories, and to mention that the
program is a Guile program in the description, and to put "Guile
Scheme" in the source language field.

Then a simple search would let find Guile Scheme programs and libraries.

Last time I added a program to the directory, filling the template
entry and sending it to the directory, it taked not much time to see
it published, IIRC.

Cheers,
marc0

That's not the first the time I hear about this unresponsiveness of the
GNU webmasters.

An alternative idea would be to migrate the whole thing to a Wiki. Then
every developer using guile could enter information about the project
and update it. Of course discipline in such tasks varies among
developers, but at least the burden would be taken away from the guile
people, and the up-to-dateness of an entry could be seen as a measure of
the project's activeness.

Just a suggestion. Unfortunately I can offer hardly any help because I
never set up a Wiki and also have a quite tight schedule.

Please CC me, I'm not on the list.
Greetings,
Thomas

A project can be in more than one category, so you could put it into a
language-independent category and in one of the Guile categories.

Yeah, I can't get any reaction out of them...
