I'd think nobody can mind if strange things happen when one thread is
reading something another is writing.  (Well, perhaps as long as it
doesn't actually crash the interpreter.)

But the problem at the moment with reducing fractions is that it's
happening when merely reading the value out.  Or what one would hope
was merely reading the value, ie. printing or equality testing.
