I thought I was going to be ready to release 1.5.7 today, but I'll
have to stop for a bit. Anyone who has time and wants to help, please
see if make dist from 1.5 current CVS works for you.

Two current problem I'm having:

  1) make dist fails because ../scripts/update-guile-api.alist tries
to use whatever guile's in the path. In my case it's 1.4, and
     1.4 can't handle the job.

  2) If I change update-guile-api.alist to set GUILE=./pre-inst-guile
(which seems more likely correct) then "make dist" doesn't crash,
but it does eat up 300MB before I have to kill it.

Also, I'm wondering why we're generating new files like this during
"make dist". It seems like this should really happen as part of make.

BTW: veryone keep an eye on ./scripts in 1.5 -- I accidentally screwed
that dir up royally this afternoon in CVS, but I think I got the tree
back the way it belongs.

Actually make dist is not just generating a new file, but also running
a cvs checkout/checkin for it. Do we actually want that? I tend to
think that "make dist" should take a fixed set of files (at least
CVS-wise) and produce a tarfile.

I agree.

Me too. People that don't use our CVS repo should also be painlessly
able to "make dist" etc.

Hello!

Same goes for the unstable tree. I would propose a seperate 'scan-api'
target in the Makefile.

Thanks in advance,
