I've just merged a lot of enhancements into Guile's debugger in
unstable CVS. Please let me (and the list) know if you notice any
problems, especially if regressions of pre-existing behaviour.

Corresponding documentation will be merged into unstable CVS shortly
(i.e. today/tomorrow).

        Neil

OK, the docs are there now too. (I still need to flesh out
descriptions of some debugger commands, but apart from that it's
done.)

Excellent!

However, cough, I get this:

guile> (use-modules (ice-9 debugger breakpoints source))
guile> (define (f x) (let ((y 2)) ##(+ x y)))
ERROR: No applicable method for #<<generic> get-breakpoint (2)> in call (get-breakpoint #f 2 29)
ABORT: (goops-error)
ERROR: In procedure scm_lreadr:
ERROR: #<unknown port>:3:38: unexpected ")"
ABORT: (read-error)
ERROR: In procedure scm_lreadr:
ERROR: #<unknown port>:3:39: unexpected ")"
ABORT: (read-error)

Also, I think having to use some many modules is a bit inconvenient.
What about making the normal repl be prepared for the usual kinds of
breakpoints?

Hmm, that's odd. When I try this, I get:

[neil@laruns ~]$ guile -q
guile> (use-modules (ice-9 debugger breakpoints source))
guile> (define (f x) (let ((y 2)) ##(+ x y)))
Set breakpoint 1: standard input:2:30: (+ x y)
guile> (version)
"1.7.0"
guile>

I'll keep looking; maybe I have something installed that CVS doesn't
install properly.

Sounds good; should this use autoload as per the current treatment of
(ice-9 debugger) and (ice-9 debug)?

This is fixed now in unstable CVS (or will be within 10 minutes of
this email going). I found 2 problems:

- failure to cope with ports whose `port-filename' is #f -- i.e. the
readline port (how on earth did I miss this?)

- a mistake in my "simplification" of `define-option-interface' whose
effect was to disable traps whenever a breakpoint was defined.

Brown paper bag x 1.5ish, I'd say.

Yes, sounds good.
