I like the idea of bringing lambda into the logo, and the gap between
“G” and “u” in your logo is nicer than in the one proposed by Luis.
The transition from the lambda to the arc of the stylised “G” is very
harsh, though. It’s a very sharp edge and I prefer the friendly
“roundness” of Luis’s logo. Maybe the lines of the Gambda logo are just
too thin?
Also, the lambda and “Guile” don’t seem to relate to one another; they
just sit next to each other, whereas in the logo on the left the
stylised parentheses “cooperate” with the text in that the embrace the
curve of the “G”.
I think the logo on the left could be improved by fixing the right part
of the round “G” and by adding a serif to the “l” (to reduce the gap
between “l” and “e”). I cannot think of a constructive suggestion for
the Gambda logo, I’m afraid.

Yeah, you mentioned that before. I'll make a revision trying to apply
that (this Sunday, or Monday, hopefully)

Funny, as my initial sketches had one flowing curve instead of a hard
bend. I moved away from that, at it made both the G and the lambda
harder to recognise. I will try rounding it out a bit.

I could likely improve on that with custom font, but that takes a lot of
time, so the symbol should be nailed down, first.

The thing is, if you adjust the G to have that hook it has in so many
fonts, it will work better with "uile", but sit less well alone in the
(implied) circle.
Thanks to you and Taylan, this is feedback one can work with :)

No need to be so self-critical. :-)
Personally I was silent because I found both nice in their own ways and
could not decide. (Your second logo is definitely much nicer than your
first though, IMO.)
In the mail you originally posted, the logo it looked somewhat pixelated
(needs more anti-aliasing?) but in this on-website comparison it doesn't
have that issue so it looks very nice.
And I have to say it looks almost like a somewhat better fit on the
website, due to the rest of the site looking quite "organic" (due to the
drawing, I think), and your logo too (due to the curvature of the
lambda, I think), whereas the other logo looks a bit more "mechanic" and
more bold (literally as well as figuratively). Not sure if my words
make sense, describing feelings is difficult.
All in all I find both very nice, but have a slight preference for your
logo, at least when placed on the website.

Hi, Thorsten! Thanks for the comparison, it's very helpful.
I think the silence is because people here seem to be working on many
(big) projects. I don't know how they manage to do all the things they
do :)
I have to agree with Taylan. The logo you propose seems to fit better on
the website, although I don't like it. My mind seems to interpret the
icon as the ear of a cartoon character :P
Also, compared to the gambda icon, I think the contracted form of the
logo I propose could work better as application icon (i.e. on the
desktop) and website icon.
Best,

It looks really nice! I think I still prefer the original logo for its
minimalism. However, it would kind of be a shame to let the Gambda,
which is probably the nicest Lambda-including logo I've ever seen, go to
waste.
I wonder even if it doesn't get used for Guile (and maybe it will?) if
it could be used for some other Guile using project that's up and
coming? Hell, "Gambda" would be a great name for a library.

Iff it won't be used for Guile, I see nothing speaking against using it
for a different project, as long as the lambda and the implied G make
sense for it.

This is really nice! I must say I find it hard to have to choose
between two very good proposals. :-)
I think I have a slight preference for Luis’ proposal.
Regardless, I agree with Chris: we must put this design to good use in
another G project!
Thanks for the great work.

You're welcome! :)
Well, I have already been busy with another iteration, taking the
feedback into account and adding custom type. Since it is already this
far, I will finish and post it soon.
