    fringes-outside-margins is a variable defined in `C source code'.
    Its value is nil

      Automatically becomes buffer-local when set in any fashion.

    Documentation:
    *Non-nil means to display fringes outside display margins.
    A value of nil means to display fringes between margins and buffer text.
