Feature request: share search ring amongst emacses

Feature request: share search ring amongst emacses.  I run one emacs
as me, the other as root (with red background turned to remind me of
my "batcommand" powers).

Anyway, often I search for something in emacs A and then remember that
I should have been searching in emacs B, and then I gots to type in
the search string all over again or do ... C-s M-y or something more that
just the C-s C-s that I want to.

Anyway: two emacses, different UID's, same $DISPLAY.  Maybe also make
it work for two emacs -nw's.

Why are you using two separate Emacses?
If there is a good reason and that is really necessary for you,
maybe we can do something to correct the underlying problem
so you can use just one.

I can't answer for the OP, but many people seem to do this.  The main
reason I hear is to run Gnus in one and do editing etc in others.  Of
course, having Elisp support threads and making the Emacs UI threaded
would solve this, although that is probably non-trivial.

I didn't really want to, but I thought "that's life".  I have the root
one with red background to remind me I'm root.  Can you pack all this
into the same cheeseburger for me?

I mean even a measly emacsclient from a different user id window seems
unsuccessful these days, XAUTHORITY non withstanding.

I dunno boss, how do the pros cope with their root and non root personalities?

The pros use CVS Emacs not older than a week or so (or have installed
tramp by hand) and do
C-x C-f /[sum/root@localhost]/etc/fstab RET

On GNU/Hurd, you can temporarily make your existing Emacs be root.
On GNU/Linux I guess you have to make two Emacses.

Or use tramp (it's available in current CVS, if you don't want to get
it separately) and edit
/[sum/root@localhost]/whatever

This will start an su session and use it to transfer mmencoded files
into and out of Emacs.  Transparently.

I am not the Original poster, but I too use two instaces of Emacs.

One runs a normal emacs with Gnus, the other runs emacspeak.

This is because emacspeak modifies alot of the emacs functions,
and some of those modifications affect the way emacs behaves normally.
As I only use speech partly, and braille for the rest, it made
alot of sense to have two emacsen running.

Also, as was already said, some people like to use
Gnus in a separate Emacs to avoid blocking when
fetching news e.g.

I think only if emacs had  a real threading system,
those problems could be solve (related to Gnus usable). Mine
wouldnt be solve that way, so it seems there are
really good reasons to have more than one emacs running.

(and a shared history would be nice!)

was the ability to kill something into another emacs.

Yes, I know; x-clipboard handles this nice; but as a screen/console only user,
this doesn't really help.

Maybe gnuserv can be modified to handle this.
