Today after a "make bootstrap" the binary fails to run
cardew:~/GNU_21/emacs> ./src/emacs
peculiar error: "invalid font property", (:spacing . iso8859)

Not sure what to do about this.

That thread solved the issue for me too.  The broken Emacs file seems to  
have been present also on SuSE 9.3.
