Dear all,

I'm fairly new to emacs and not a programmer but eager to expand the
use of org-mode. So I downloaded remember in zip and unzipped to "/
Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/lisp/remember". Then I added
the code below to ~/.emacs. But when I close emacs and load it again,
all I get are error messages. I've been messing about for quite a
while now, read (re-read) info/org-1 and PROBLEMS, but can not find
what I'm doing wrong. Feeling a real dork here. Any advise would be
appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Henri

Your problem starts here; the code you had to add should have come after
all the (custom-set-variables) stuff. Maybe something like this:

(custom-set-variables
 '(longlines-wrap-follows-window-size t)
 '(x-bitmap-file-path (quote ("System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/"))))

;; Start org-remember
(add-to-list 'load-path "/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/lisp/remember/")
(require 'remember)
(setq remember-annotation-functions '(org-remember-annotation))
(setq remember-handler-functions '(org-remember-handler))
(add-hook 'remember-mode-hook 'org-remember-apply-template)
(setq org-directory "~/Desktop/")
(setq org-default-notes-file (concat org-directory "/notes.org"))
(define-key global-map "\C-cr" 'org-remember)
;; End org-remember

I would add that you may want to have these things be someplace other
than inside the Emacs.app folder; perhaps a ~/emacs folder or something
like that would be appropriate. Then it won't run the risk of being
replaced or deleted if you upgrade Emacs.

I would therefore change the first line to something like

(add-to-list 'load-path "~/emacs")

And put your remember*.el files into a folder there called "emacs".

Thanks for the help Charles. I followed your advise and can now get
into remember by using C-cr.

Henri
