When a column is not wide enough to show content then the content is cut off and a ... character appears beside it.
To make it easy to see the full content add a mouse over, so when mouse is over this character or other character of the cut of content, a tooltip appears showing the full content of the cell.
To make it easy to resize a column to fit content, if the user clicks the ... character then a popup menu can appear with an item like 'Resize column to fit content', so it can be done with a single click.

You don't say what Emacs version you're reporting this issue for, but
this is how Emacs 29 already works.

I'm not sure that sounds quite generally useful enough -- you can resize
the column easily enough with the `}' command.

I reported for Emacs 28, but I'll check the 29 next time. Thanks.

Fit size does it one step, instead of having to press } several times. Maybe beside the menu it could be on a key too, like C-} or something.
