I found this page in the Emacs Wiki: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/MarginMode The picture at the bottom shows what I'd like: a visual cue to avoid = writing too long lines (I know there's autofill). Unfortunately, this = requires XWEM and the other solutions only add faces to characters in th= e = buffers, so they don't actually draw a vertical line. I think Emacs 21 can display graphics in a buffer, so I thought of = something like putting a graphics overlay onto the buffer text. Can it b= e = done with a standalone package (no XWEM)? -- = Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/
