I can't reproduce this error.  I tested on 23.0.60.2 but ses-mode.el did
not change since 23.0.60.1.

Leo, can you double-check and provide a backtrace?

I was able to reproduce that error in Emacs CVS 2008-02-11 but I've
since moved to 2008-02-22 and the error is gone.

There is not bt when the error occurs.
