I understand the reasoning behind the "fontify the rest of the buffer as a string if I've typed one double quote" thing that Emacs does in most modes, but I don't think it's good user experience. It's like when you're typing in a credit card number on a web site and after you've typed the first digit, you get a text in red saying "INVALID CREDIT CARD NUMBER". Hey, gimme a second...
