hi all:
I want to eidt a file on remote machine.But the machine refused the ftp
connection.
The administrator told me that I should connect to port 22 using sftp.
what should I do?

Use Tramp. (What is your Emacs version?)

Depending in what the connection speed is you can run emacs -nw
through a console for small editing jobs. For bigger jobs tramp is
probably your best bet.
