I traced the problem down to =E2=94=8C=E2=94=80=E2=94=80=E2=94=80=E2=94=80 =E2=94=82 (when (eq 'exit (process-status proc)) =E2=80=A6 =E2=94=94=E2=94=80=E2=94=80=E2=94=80=E2=94=80 The backend kills the process buffer on `'exit' but not on `'signal', which= happens when Flymake kills an obsolete in-progress check.
