* Pronunciation of Eglot [not found] <87plxsrw4i.fsf.ref@yahoo.com> @ 2024-01-23 13:56 ` Po Lu 2024-01-23 21:15 ` Juergen Fenn 2024-01-26 17:52 ` orzodk 0 siblings, 2 replies; 5+ messages in thread From: Po Lu @ 2024-01-23 13:56 UTC (permalink / raw) To: help-gnu-emacs Sorry if this quite whimsical question has already been answered--but what is the pronunciation of the "E" in "Eglot"? Is that first vowel the /i/ in "Emacs" (perhaps yielding /iːɡlət/), or is it the /ɛ/ in "egg", giving /ɛɡlɑt/? Another question is whether the correct, or in any case official, pronunciation deserves a mention in the Eglot manual. This information will enable many Emacs apostles not to embarrass themselves, should the Emacs world have already agreed on a standard pronunciation :-) ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

I think, on YouTube, most English native speakers seem to prefer /iːɡlət/. > Another question is whether the correct, or in any case official, > pronunciation deserves a mention in the Eglot manual. Probably not, for it would be quite unsual. YMMV. Regards, Jürgen. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

Quite the contrary - a few tools I use do this. TeX and LaTeX are probably the most famous, but definitely not the only ones. From this I infer e-glot (as in e-mail) and rhymes with "dot" (/i:glɑt/). ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread
