I'm using Emacs on Windows XP. My .emacs file is in the directory c:
\.emacs which was working fine for me until recently. Now Emacs starts
up without loading the .emacs file.
I have made no changes to the .emacs file, so it should be bug free.
Any suggestions on what to do?

I found a solution. My home directory has for some reason (I wonder
why !!) to another location on the disk. I just save my .emacs file as
"~/.emacs" and now it's working again.

I assume you mean the file is *in* the 'C:\' directory and is called '.emacs'
(and is not in a directory called 'c:\.emacs').

Some checks you can do:
1. Check if you have defined a HOME variable that points to a location other
than C:\. This location will override C:\ as the default location for
checking the .emacs file.
2. See if the file permissions (or 'attributes') are correct for .emacs. You can
check this through the properties menu item in the context menu from
Explorer. Especially check if your user ID has the right access.
