Many thanks, David.

I add the following lines to ~/.Xresources, however it has no effect.

Emacs.bold-italic.attributeFont: -adobe-utopia-regular-r-normal-*-19-*-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
Emacs.italic.attributeFont: -*-lucida-bold-r-normal-*-19-*-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1

Any ideas?
