The way I see it Emacs maintainers have signaled they support putting
AUCTeX into core.
I think the natural way to proceed is that AUCTeX maintainers agree on
this step internally, decide what's the best way for the further
development, and come back to Emacs in order to discuss that outcome and
make a final decision together.
I'm saying this because currently, I don't know myself if AUCTeX should
follow the Org approach (Own Git repo, merge with Emacs on a regular
basis) or close the own shop and move into Emacs wholesale. Let's not
forget the ELPA releases as well. The bundling is only one step among
many others, I think. And I don't think we have to rush: This will not
happen for Emacs 30.
