I got curious, so I did a google search, it seems to be an
Internationalization file that was removed from Emacs a long time ago:
http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/emacs/emacs/lisp/international/subst-ksc.el?view=log
I grep through the org-mode source and I can find any reference to
it. This is really strange.
Thomas, by any chance you are using OSX? The google search top results
are from OSX users:
https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=subst-ksc
I have no idea what is going on.
Cheers,
Charles

Oops, I mean I cannot.

Apparently not on my Mac:
bash-3.2$ find -type f | xargs grep subst-ksc
find: illegal option -- t
find: illegal option -- y
find: illegal option -- p
find: illegal option -- e
find: f: No such file or directory
However,
bash-3.2$ find ./ -name subst-ksc
doesn't find anything,

Bah, humbug - sorry: I meant
find . -type f | xargs grep subst-ksc
This should find all "normal" files and grep through them looking for
the string subst-ksc.
find . -name subst-ksc
by contrast, finds all files named subst-ksc: it's not surprising that
you didn't find anything with the latter.

Aloha Charles,
Thanks for these pointers. I had an emacs installed via MacPorts. When
I uninstalled it, the "make uncompiled" command ran to completion.
All the best,

IIRC "type" is considered a long option for find on OSX. Try using two dashes: --type
