When I set the input method to spanish-alt-postfix with C-\, I get in the input method box ES<UUU and not just ES. It does not work. when I press i'SPC then I get í even though before I pressed the space the character showed up correctly, how do I set the input method to just ES? It eats two more characters after i press i'. right after the "i'" i see "Ã" just fine but then it eats two more characters.

With C-u C-\ spanish-alt-postfix RET I get "ES<" (the modeline says
"ES<u" because I'm using utf-8 as buffer coding system.
What does it say "M-: current-input-method RET"? What coding system
are you using?

This problem also plagues swedish input modes. I use Emacs 23 from here:
http://peadrop.com/blog/2007/01/06/pretty-emacs/
It's not possible to enter "funky" scandinavian characters(å,ä,å) - hieroglyphs
are printed instead. It affects both swedish-keyboard, swedish-postfix and
swedish-alt-postfix.
Russian input mode works normally, however.
