In recent versions, every time I bring up emacs, even on a specific file
or directory, I get the *GNU Emacs* buffer in a second window. Is there
any way to turn off this behavior. I've been using emacs since the 80s
and don't really need to be reminded how to run the tutorial.
Thanks.

Silly me. The answer was right there _in_ the very screen I was trying to
get rid of.
