Hi,

shouldn't the removal of the *-alt-postfix input methods be documented
in etc/NEWS?

,----[ leim/ChangeLog ]
| 2007-12-15 Richard Stallman <rms@gnu.org>
| [...]
| * quail/latin-alt.el: Many doc fixes.
| ("danish-alt-postfix")
| ("esperanto-alt-postfix", "finnish-alt-postfix")
| ("german-alt-postfix", "icelandic-alt-postfix")
| ("norwegian-alt-postfix", "scandinavian-alt-postfix")
| ("spanish-alt-postfix", "swedish-alt-postfix"):
| Deleted; they were identical to the non-alt versions.
`----

Today, there was a report (in the German Gnus newsgroup) that the
following code failed after upgrading from 22.1 to 22.2:

  (add-hook 'text-mode-hook
    (lambda () (set-input-method "german-alt-postfix")))

Bye, Reiner.

Glenn, thanks for adding it. I reworded it a little[1] and added it
to Emacs_22/.../etc/NEWS and etc/NEWS.22 as well. If this was not TRT
to do, please let me know.

** The following input methods were removed in Emacs 22.2, but this was
not advertized: danish-alt-postfix, esperanto-alt-postfix,
finnish-alt-postfix, german-alt-postfix, icelandic-alt-postfix,
norwegian-alt-postfix, scandinavian-alt-postfix, spanish-alt-postfix,
and swedish-alt-postfix. Use the versions without "alt-", which are
identical.

Bye, Reiner.

"advertise.*" is much more common in the Emacs sources.

You are right. "advertize" is wrong in both British and American English.

http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/13/messages/785.html

British writers attempting to use American spelling sometimes slip up
here and write, for example, advertize, which is never acceptable.

Include me in the above.
