I don't want to pay for --with-wide-int in my builds because I almost never look at such large files. But I'd be happy to be able to look at such large files every once in a while. Whether it'd be significantly slower depends a lot on whether we keep most buffer positions as C integers or as Lisp integers and how often we convert from one to the other. I don't have a clear enough idea about that to venture a guess. Stefan
