Historically, `emacs` was added as a feature as a consequence of `xemacs` being a feature. IIRC it was felt that you shouldn't have to say (not (featurep 'xemacs)) to test "is this the true Emacs?". As for why `xemacs` was added as a feature, I don't know. It was probably to provide a cleaner alternative to (string-match "..XEmacs.." emacs-version). Stefan
