You (and the current tutorial) assume that the reader of the tutorial has decided he's going to use Emacs and wants to figure out how to use it efficiently. That's good for that use case. But there are other use cases, such as someone who's intrigued and wants to "check it out". In that case, the tutorial should mostly try and showcase what you can do with Emacs. Stefan
