Subject: decode-coding-region broken
Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 17:52:06 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <jeprufyabt.fsf@sykes.suse.de> (raw)
When decode-coding-region is instructed to decode in-place it can
clobber the buffer text with NULs. That can best be observed when
running dired-do-redisplay on a (big) subdirectory in a dired buffer.
Sometimes parts of the newly inserted directory text are be overwritten
with NULs. This happens only rarely, perhaps once in 10-20 tries.
Perhaps garbage collection is biting here? The new way of decoding
in-place dates back to the very start of the emacs-unicode-2 branch,
unfortunately checked in as part of a big merge without history.
Andreas.
