I have implemented --enable-maintainer-mode, which you should use instead
of MAINT=FRC to get automatic regeneration of configure and src/config.in.
Andreas.

Maybe it should also turn off __INLINE__ and -O.
That would be quite useful I think.

Not by default, please, or at least provide an option to separate the
two behaviors. I want maintainer mode turned on so I get automatic
autoconf updates, but I most certainly do not want -O and inlining
turned off. Sure optimized code is occasionally annoying when debugging
-- but really only occasionally, and I'm quite used to dealing with it.

I second that. Plus, there is already such an option:
./configure CFLAGS=-g

I second that. Plus, there is already such an option:
./configure CFLAGS=-g
That won't do the whole job; it does not turn off inlining.

How about this?
./configure CFLAGS='-g -fno-inline'

The last time I checked, gcc does no inlining at -O0.
Andreas.

The last time I checked, gcc does no inlining at -O0.
I believe I saw inlining even after I had removed the -O option.
But I will try it again.
