When I use M-x man to display a man page, it is typically too many
columns... I want the man page to display in 80 columns, as that's
what I have my windows sized to.

I'm used to man "just working" inside a terminal emulator... is there
some setting to force 80 column output?

Ah, never mind, the MANWIDTH environment variable seems to handle it.

There is another M-x woman.

There is also `Man-width' in Emacs to address the same requirement. Most of
the variables related to man are hidden with an initial cap to make it easier
for M-x man <RET> to do the expected thing.

M-x woman doesn't seem to format a number of pages correctly, such as
socket(7), so I don't use it.
