I've been running emacs cvs snapshots. On the latest build, with
kdebase-4.0.5-3.fc9.x86_64
with emacs-cvs from 6/10/08, emacs does not draw it's window. Only a shadow
appears!
I think these messages are relevant:
kwin: X Error (error: <unknown>[DAMAGE+0], request:
XDamageDestroy[DAMAGE+2], resource: 0x1a000e2)
Going back to an emacs built from 5/12/08 fixes the problem.

See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160577 . I am not sure which
side (KDE4 or Emacs) is buggy though.

Sounds similar
I'm using nvidia closed driver
But it's not compiz. I'm using opengl for desktop effects.

Sounds similar:
1) I am using nvidia closed driver
2) But, I'm not using compiz - using opengl
