I've not talked about "helping users". The ability to run Emacs on Windows does not give me "whatever [I] happen to want". It gives me the four freedoms (run, study, copy, improve) with respect to Emacs; that I'm running it on Windows is irrelevant. What you're defending is a very long-term freedom-for-all at the cost of restricting short-term freedom for those of us who can not, or want not, to do the switch at once. > Leading people to escape from Windows is a positive result. > Making use of Windows more convenient is not. When I use Emacs on GNU/Linux, I enjoy the freedom of Emacs; I don't think of it as "making GNU/Linux more convenient"; if anything, Emacs is making my life more convenient by giving me freedom. And the same goes for Emacs on Windows. With respect to your poll: I have not rejected Windows yet, so I'm certainly using proprietary software. But, OTOH, if I had not found Emacs on Windows I wouldn't be contributing to Emacs right now. Does that count as a positive or as a negative in your view? Juanma
